Marskens Bondegårdsferie Hohenwarte

Hohenwarte is located in the midst of the Tønder marshes – a protected area of unique natural beauty – and just two kilometres from the Wadden Sea, which is renowned for its rich birdlife.

The original farmhouse mansion was built in 1878 as a miniature replica of Kiel University by Moldenhart architects . Two families, Angel and Schriffren, lived here prior to World War 2.

After the Second World War the farm was acquired by the Danish government and functioned as an agricultural research station between 1957 and 1991.

Aase and Andreas Paulsen bought the property in November 1991 with the aim of running it as a farm stay holiday centre. After extensive renovations the first guests arrived in March 1992 – and many of them still return to stay with us year after year.

Vivi Nielsen Paulsen took over from her parents in September 1999 and alongside her husband Andreas Nielsen Paulsen continues to welcome both returning and new guests for relaxing stays in an informal and friendly farm setting.

Hohenwarte is run as a hobby farm where guests can get close to the animals or ride our horses. We aim to create a convivial atmosphere that encourages our guests to talk and socialise – but whether you want to join in or have the peace and quiet of the countryside to yourself is up to you!
